over the last few years on the Insta-Pro Intl blog.\u00a0 In particular, antibiotic-free livestock production (or at least commitments to it) has seen enormous gains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com\/en\/2014\/04\/15\/antibiotic-free-chicken-production-the-chick-fil-a-effect-on-broiler-production\/\">since I blogged about it<\/a> a few years ago.\u00a0 I just saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wattagnet.com\/articles\/27838-spring-creek-begins-shipping-no-antibiotics-pigs-in-canada?utm_content=bufferf2ae8&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\">this one<\/a> today, in fact, to go along with commitments made by bigger players \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/consumerist.com\/2015\/10\/20\/subway-will-switch-to-all-antibiotic-free-meat-by-2025\/\">Subway<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-mcdonalds-antibiotics-idUSKBN0M01L520150304\">McDonald\u2019s<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chipotle.com\/food-with-integrity\">Chipotle<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2014\/12\/17\/panera-ethical-meat\/\">Panera<\/a>, to name a few.\u00a0 There is definitely more concern about what\u2019s in food, and for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com\/en\/2016\/05\/26\/whats-in-my-food\/\">good reason<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com\/en\/2014\/04\/15\/antibiotic-free-chicken-production-the-chick-fil-a-effect-on-broiler-production\/\">I wrote<\/a> about two years ago, antibiotic use in poultry production spans at least 50 years, and has created levels of performance certainty within the industry.\u00a0 I showed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com\/en\/2014\/04\/15\/antibiotic-free-chicken-production-the-chick-fil-a-effect-on-broiler-production\/\">here<\/a> by calculating the amount of variation in broiler body weight with or without antibiotics.\u00a0 When antibiotics are not used, there is more variation in body weight \u2013 more uncertainty.\u00a0 For a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Broiler_industry#Industry_statistics\">huge industry<\/a> responsible for supplying inexpensive, quality animal protein, even extremely small changes in expectations don\u2019t go unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>Probiotics are an excellent alternative to antibiotics in poultry diets, but a recent report highlighted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allaboutfeed.net\/Feed-Additives\/Articles\/2016\/8\/FAO-Efficacy-probiotics-highly-variable-2850714W\/#1354\">high levels of variability in the efficacies<\/a> of these products \u2013 more uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>What can you do if you\u2019re producing ExPress\u00ae soy meal for poultry (or any livestock, for that matter)?<\/p>\n<p>With increased uncertainty comes the need for more certainty elsewhere.\u00a0 This is where your <a
