Therefore, the definition of energy values of feed ingredients and their contribution to the diet is relevant to decreasing diet costs, while optimizing caloric efficiency, and growth performance, to improve revenues in swine operations. Feed contains specific ingredients which is the fuel that pigs use for body maintenance and other vital functions. As indicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.feedstrategy.com\/native-ad\/insta-pro\/soybean-meal-in-swine-diets-optimize-production-profitability\/\">previously<\/a>, the gross energy consumed by the pig is not totally retained because part of that energy is lost through feces, urine, gas, and heat. Thus, it is important to know how dietary energy, the most expensive component, is used in the pig\u2019s body.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"ai-optimize-7\">Digestible Energy (DE) is the difference between gross energy intake and energy losses in feces.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ai-optimize-8\">Metabolizable Energy (ME) is the difference between DE intake and energy losses in urine and gases of digestive fermentation.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ai-optimize-9\">Net Energy (NE) is the difference between ME intake and heat production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-10\">Net energy is considered the most accurate estimate of a pig\u2019s energy need for maintenance and productive purposes, and the most precise estimate of the energy value of feed. Fats and oils provide high amounts of energy to diets; however, their composition, quality, and feeding value are inconsistent and prone to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/15484945\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rancidity,<\/a> which can affect growth performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-11\">An alternative to oils\/fats and blends is ExPress\u00ae soymeal, a consistent ingredient which provides not only highly digestible amino acids, but also greater quality energy concentration for swine diets, due to a residual oil content in the meal of 6-8%. (2021)<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"186\"><strong>Avg \u2013 2,8223<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"180\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-12\">Concentration of NE in ExPress\u00ae soymeal is 542 kcal\/kg more than solvent-extracted soybean meal as observed by Rodriguez et al., (<a href=\"https:\/\/nutrition.ansci.illinois.edu\/sites\/nutrition.ansci.illinois.edu\/files\/22.%20Rodriguez%20et%20al.%2C%20extruded%20SBM%2C%20JAS%2C%20July%2C%202020.pdf\">2020)<\/a>. \u00a0Even when the other two trials did not determine the NE values of solvent soybean meal, it is evident that the NE for swine is greater in ExPress\u00ae soymeal.
