{"id":1655,"date":"2014-08-07T09:00:40","date_gmt":"2014-08-07T09:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com\/?p=1655"},"modified":"2025-12-18T10:23:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T16:23:21","slug":"exceeding-expectations-putting-the-customer-first","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/instapro.spinuhost.com\/en\/blog\/businessstrategyandfinance\/exceeding-expectations-putting-the-customer-first\/","title":{"rendered":"Exceeding Expectations: Putting the Customer First"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During a recent trip to visit prospective clients, I was reminded how important customer relations were to business.\u00a0 Without customers, there is no business, so as a collaborator with that company, we must not only satisfy the customer initially;\u00a0but continue to meet, and exceed, their expectations.<\/p>\n<p>When I begin to work on the design work\u00a0for a company,\u00a0sometimes I need a helping hand or someone who has previously had experience dealing with\u00a0them\u00a0to provide some insight on how business works.\u00a0 It could be as simple as knowing which door is the front door or as formal as presenting your business card with both hands and a deep bow during your greeting (if you\u2019re in Japan!).<\/p>\n<p>As an engineer, my work is very different from the sales team, so when it comes to understanding and managing our customer relationships,\u00a0the sales team is the group that is usually involved.\u00a0 While the methods of sales and engineering may be very different, the goals are the same: offer the customer solutions in order to have the best chance of commercial success.<\/p>\n<p>On a recent business trip with on of the our sales directors, I was fortunate enough to\u00a0visit clients and discuss some new business opportunities with them.\u00a0 As an engineer, it is invaluable to be able to see the plants first hand and discuss layout possibilities in person.\u00a0 Pictures and <a title=\"CAD Drawing\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Computer-aided_design\">CAD drawings<\/a> only tell part of the story, so\u00a0when\u00a0it is possible,\u00a0on-site visits are especially helpful.<\/p>\n<p>During an on-site visit, our goal is to\u00a0further connect with the customer,\u00a0understand their operation&#8217;s goals and offer them solutions. On our visit, we were able to\u00a0discuss ideas in the plant\u00a0and over a meal. These\u00a0interactions\u00a0remove some of the business \u201cformalities\u201d and provide an atmosphere where ideas flow naturally. This allows us to connect to customers\u00a0on a more personal level, which helps us create better solutions for them.<\/p>\n<p>During this trip, I was able to gain a new appreciation not only for the entire sales process but also for the customer\u2019s point of view. <a title=\"Insta-Pro Home Page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com\/\">Insta-Pro<\/a>\u00a0customers\u00a0are working with a company who will meet them face to face and discuss solutions with them.\u00a0 This shows dedication, caring and a true commitment to their success.
