{"id":11427,"date":"2018-05-10T06:00:40","date_gmt":"2018-05-10T11:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com\/?p=11427"},"modified":"2026-01-07T13:28:53","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T19:28:53","slug":"vented-conveyor-diverter-valves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/instapro.spinuhost.com\/en\/blog\/engineeringandmaintenance\/vented-conveyor-diverter-valves\/","title":{"rendered":"Vented conveyor diverter valves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">One feature that we put onto our vented conveyors is a diverter valve.\u00a0 Depending on the design, these can sometimes be called \u201cY\u201d or \u201cK\u201d valves due to their shape which can resemble these respective letters.\u00a0 In addition to being called Y or K valves, they are oftentimes called two-way or three-way valves, respectively, due to their ability to divert product two or three different ways.\u00a0 A couple of questions we often get are what is the purpose of these valves and are they necessary?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11428 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insta-pro.com-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Vented-conveyor-diverter-valves-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"One feature that we put onto our vented conveyors is a diverter valve.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are they used for?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">In the ExPress\u00ae system, the extruded product is conveyed to the oil press by the vented conveyor.\u00a0 Under normal operation, this is a continuous and steady process.\u00a0 If there are variations in product composition or material flow, the oil press performance can be affected.\u00a0 We monitor the performance of the oil press by noting the operating amps of the main motor.\u00a0 If this goes too high, the press can stall or the motor will be overworked and could eventually fail.\u00a0 To prevent this, there is some logic built into our control panels that monitors the press amps.\u00a0 If the amps reach a certain value, the diverter valve is engaged and directs product away from the oil press inlet until the amps return to a safe level.\u00a0 This valve is designed to reduce the chance of the oil press plugging by diverting product away from the inlet.\u00a0 Additionally, it is also nice to have the ability to bypass the oil press during startup if needed and using a valve is a simple way to achieve this.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Y vs K valves<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In some situations, customers want to produce both full fat soy and ExPress\u00ae soy meal.\u00a0 To create full fat soy, the product from the extruders needs to be diverted away from the oil press.\u00a0 Using a K valve with three different positions allows for bypass, full fat, and ExPress\u00ae product streams.\u00a0 For full fat applications, the valve diverts product into a separate conveyor which goes to a cooler like in the picture.\u00a0 For regular ExPress \u00ae applications, a Y valve is sufficient.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Planning<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The final decision of which valve to use will ultimately depend on what the final products need to be.\u00a0 K valves give the most versatility, but routing and wiring can be somewhat tricky.\u00a0 In some instances, a Y valve is used for full fat production as well.\u00a0 The \u201cbypass\u201d position goes into a full fat conveyor regardless if it is truly for full fat production or just to bypass the press.\u00a0 This may be another option to run full fat in the future without having to use a K valve.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One feature that we put onto our vented conveyors is a diverter valve.\u00a0 Depending on the design, these can sometimes be called \u201cY\u201d or \u201cK\u201d valves due to their shape which can resemble these respective letters.\u00a0 In addition to being called Y or K valves, they are oftentimes called two-way or three-way valves, respectively, due [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":68,"featured_media":11502,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7176],"tags":[1669,1668],"class_list":["post-11427","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-engineeringandmaintenance","tag-diverter-valve","tag-vented-conveyor"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.2 (Yoast SEO v27.3) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Vented Conveyor Diverter Valves<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"A feature that we on our vented conveyors is a diverter valve.
